When It All Comes Back

When It All Comes Back
By Tara Chislett

Prologue
"Reliving"

"No!" Caleb Morley called into the darkness as he sat upright in bed, sweat beads clinging to his forehead and along his hairline. It had been another one of those dreams. Those dreams that had invaded his sleep so many nights. The dreams of her and what he had done. How he had ruined her long ago. He knew it was his fault she had died. He had killed Olivia. His Olivia...

"Caleb, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Olivia Locke, known as Livvie by her friends and family, asked as she awoke from her peaceful slumber. She ran her fingers through his hair, which was tousled from sleep. Sweat beads clung to the root of each silken brown strand, "Are you alright?" she asked, voice filled with concern.

"I'm fine, don't worry yourself. Just...go to sleep and rest all right?" he slowly rose from the bed.

"Wait! Where are you going?" she asked, holding one of the purple stain sheets to her chest while she watched him dress.

"I just need to be alone for a while. I need to think."

"Have I done something to upset you?" she asked.

"It's not you, Olivia. Far from it. I’ll be back soon I promise." leaning in, Caleb kissed her on the forehead, "Go back to bed, sweetheart."

When he was sure she was safe and sound in bed, he quietly left the loft.

The docks were unusually cool for springtime. Quickly he walked along, wishing he had brought a jacket or a sweater. Anything to block the chilling cold that froze his bones," Why is this happening?" he asked himself in frustration, "Why can't she leave me alone? Let me live my life?"

Eying a bench a little further down the docks, he hurried towards it and collapsed on top of it, putting his head in his hands in frustration. She was haunting him. Olivia was haunting him. In the silence, he swore he could make out her laughter, faint and off in the distance.

"You think this is funny, huh?" he shouted into the emptiness," Well you definitely thought wrong, Olivia! Definitely!"

Olivia. The first woman he had ever 'loved'. Or at least he thought it was love. They were to marry, for better, for worse. But the worse was bad, very bad, for Caleb's stepmother, Roderick Morley's second wife, bestowed on young Caleb a great gift, the gift of immortality, the gift of power, the gift of vampirism. However, Olivia didn't see it this as a gift, rather she saw it as a curse. So, in desperation, she tried to flee, ready to leave him because of his new life. It was then Caleb decided if she wouldn't be his willingly, he would take her by force, so she wouldn't have any choice but to embrace the dark gift.

But something had gone terribly wrong.

He hadn't intended to hurt her, to drain her of all her lifeblood until she lye limp in his arms. He wanted her to be his, to be what he had become. To graciously accept the dark gift that had been forced upon him. He wanted companionship, the companionship only Olivia could bring.

But Olivia was good. She didn't indulge in evil. She wanted a life, a family and, even more so, she wanted to be the one Caleb could call his own. But to become as he had become: a creature of darkness, an eternally damned soul, was out of the question. She would have no part in it. So, she tried to leave.

"I did it out of love." Caleb professed, eyes cast upward to the sky, "I wanted to live forever with my sweet Olivia. Is that a crime? Is it?" He sat in the eerie calm; waiting for a reply he would never receive, wondering if he would ever feel any peace again.

Chapter One
"The Morning After"

"You don't look well this morning." Livvie bluntly commented, pouring a cup of coffee for herself before joining an exhausted Caleb on the sofa, "You feel ok?"

"I'll be fine. I just haven't been sleeping well lately."

"More like you haven't been sleeping at all." Livvie corrected.

"Olivia, I'm fine. Just a little tired and stressed out and tense." he insisted, picking up his cup from the coffee table.

Putting her empty mug on the table, Livvie shifted her weight on the couch until she sat, elevated by her knees, behind him. She brought her hands to his neck and began kneading out the knots that caused his tension," Does that feel better, my love?" she asked as he let out a low groan.

"Olivia, you have no idea how good that feels."

"You're so tense." she commented, "All these knots..."

"It's been...stressful lately."

"I'll say!" she agreed and moved off the couch.

"What are you doing?" he gave her a puzzled look.

"I want you to take off your shirt and lay on your stomach." She ordered.

"A little pushy today, aren't we?" he asked with a teasing smile as he unbuttoned his crimson red dress shirt, watching Livvie closely with his intense blue eyes as she pulled her auburn hair up into a clip.

After removing his shirt, he stretched out across the couch. Livvie then took her place; seated at the base of his spine and slowly, she began to knead out more knots.

"What's wrong?" Livvie questioned again after a silent moment.

"I'm just-I've got a lot on my mind." he replied with another groan as he felt his tension being relieved as she pressed harder.

"What's on your mind?' she pried.

"It's nothing, Olivia. Don't worry yourself."

"Talk to me, Caleb. Tell me what's bothering you."

"It's nothing." he insisted.

"Nothing doesn't cause a man to wake up in a cold sweat at two in the morning."

"Will you please just drop it? Just drop it!" Livvie could see the clear frustration in his eyes as he sharply turned his head to her.

"Ok fine, but if you want to..."

"Thank you." he cut her off, lying his head back down, allowing her to finish rubbing his back in silence that she dared not to break.

"So what have you got planned today?" he finally asked, trying to lighten the mood a little.

"I don't know. I think I might go to the gym for a little bit. Need to keep in shape." she gave a little laugh.

"You are in shape, Olivia."

"Yeah, round is a shape." she agreed, laughing some more.

Caleb laughed too, "Round? You're not round, Olivia. You’re in perfect shape."

"I know I just want to muscle." she laughed, "I mean, it must be weird for people to watch a seemingly weak woman toss a grown man into a wall...but then again, most women aren't vampires and don't have vampire strength."

"True."

"What about you? What are your plans?" she asked as she began to massage the nape of his neck.

"Work. I’ve gotta get the band back together. I even got some new stuff. And apparently Reese, Caz and Ricky have some new material as well." he replied.

"What about management?" she asked, "I mean, Joshua's dead."

"I've got someone in mind." he assured

"Who?" She wondered aloud.

"Jack Ramsey. He's sort of been...running things in my absence."

"Really? I thought you two hated each other?"

"Hated, past tense. Well, I mean we aren't like best friends by any means. He wouldn't be someone I would ask to be my best man. We have an...understanding. And he's a good business man."

"It'll just seem...strange to see you two working together after all the time you spent...waging war."

"I'm just doing what's best for the band. They needed a manager: Jack served them well. He brought them through a rough time and he gets along great with them. He’s the perfect candidate for the job so we put our difference aside for the sake of the band."

"And that is incredibly noble." Livvie smiled mischievously, kissing the nape of his neck with soft butterfly kisses," And not to mention incredibly sexy."

Caleb laughed as she continued to kiss his neck, "Someone’s feeling awfully frisky this morning." he commented on her behaviour.

"I just want to spend...a little quality time with you...Is that a crime?" she asked as she ran her index finger down to the small of his back then making slow circles with an innocent smile on her face.

"Quality time, huh? And what did you have in mind for this...quality time?" he grinned, turning his head slightly to watch her.

"I don't know. I was thinking a little bit of this..." she kissed his lower back, "And this." his shoulder blade, "And this." his neck, "And a lot of this." finally their lips met, "Yes, definitely a lot of that."

Caleb laughed again, touching her cheek and pulling her closer, devouring her lips in a passionate kiss, turning on his side so he could put his arms around her and pull her down onto the couch, stretching out across her and caressing her stomach lightly, "I think I'm liking the idea of quality time." he agreed, kissing her more passionately, ‘Who knows? Maybe this will clear my mind.' he finished, silently.

I think we're alone here

I think we're alone in the universe tonight....
-Alone in the universe by David Usher(from the album Morning Orbit)

"Don't shut me out!" Olivia Locke demanded, anger brimming in her deep brown eyes as she slammed the loft door behind her and hurried to catch up with her husband, Caleb Morley, with whom she had been in the midst of a heated argument, "Don't walk away from me!"
"Olivia, just drop it!" he shot back as he sat down on their bed, taking a black notebook off the bedside stand and scribbling something out vigorously.
"No I will not just drop it," she exclaimed, climbing up on the bed next to him, "Not until you admit it!"
"Admit what?"
"Come on! You know what I am talking about, Caleb!"
"No, I don't!Damn it, Olivia! I'm tired of playing these games with you. Just tell me what your problem is!" he finally burst, not able to hold back any longer, "I'm so tired of this...guessing game. Just tell me what the hell is wrong!"
"That ring! You're obsessed with it!" she exclaimed, exasperated, "It's all you think about and I am sick of it!"
"Olivia, that ring has..."
"Been in your family for centuries, I know, you told me." she finished his sentence for him, "It's also powerful. And that is why you want it."
"That ring is my legacy...it's part of my destiny!" he reasoned with her.
"Caleb, don't you get it? You are my destiny!" finally, she said what she had been wanting to say for weeks. Ever since the fiasco with the ring, it was as if they began to drift. Olivia felt more miserable everyday as she watched him stress over the ring and now she was down to the last straw. She had to let him know how she felt.
"Wait a minute...you don't think that I think that ring is more important than you....than us, do you?" he asked in disbelief.
"It certainly seems that way." she confessed.
"Why didn't you tell me before?" he asked, his piercing blue eyes meeting hers.
"I didn't know how to say it," she admitted, "This isn't the type of thing most people talk about...but then again, we aren't most people, are we?"
"I wish you would've told me you were unhappy."
"It's just...I'm tired. I'm tired of fighting this endless battle. There's no end. Something always comes in our way to ruin our happiness. There's no..."
"Escape." he finished, closing his book and leaning back on the bed, "I know what you are saying."
"There has to be some way we can end this. There has to be some way we can...be together, just you and I.I'm sick of fighting Joshua, I'm sick of the ring, I'm sick of this world, of Port Charles. All I want is to feel your arms around me, to feel your heart beat in time with mine, to feel your hands on my skin and your lips against mine. I want you to make love to me, right here, right now. Can you stop thinking about the world and can we please pretend that we are alone in the universe? If only for tonight?"
Caleb looked at Olivia for a long moment without saying anything. Olivia's outburst had caught him off guard. It was in that moment that he saw what he had always loved most about her : her strength and passion and ability to speak her mind, even when it could be disastrous. This was the Olivia he knew and loved-his Olivia. He didn't care if she was selfish-he could be too. He didn't care about how deceptive she could be-afterall, she learned from the master. All he cared about was being with her and knowing she belonged to him. Forever.
Putting his hand behind her head, he pulled her into a deep kiss, which she eagerly reciprocated. Tonight would be their night. Nothing else would matter. Not Joshua, not the slayer, and most of all, not the ring.
Olivia moaned as he deepened his kisses, running his hands all over her body. He lifted her black tank top and roamed her stomach with his hands, sending shivers to parts of her body she didn't even know she had. After a moment, her shirt lay on the floor and she lay before in her silky black bra.
Olivia, who had been lying still, enjoying the sensation that came with his touch, set to work removing his shirt. Expertly, she undid the buttons and tossed it aside, roaming his back with her hands, making her way up to run her hands through his silky, brown hair.
Moving his lips from hers, he kissed her neck and made his way down to the canyon of her breasts, his lips not leaving her skin for a moment.
She moaned and breathed his name as she gave in to the feeling of passion burning inside her. She had never felt love like this before and Caleb had never loved her more. She wanted him, he wanted her, and it wasn't long before they had both removed all barriers that stood in their way and became one with eachother.
"I've missed you. "Olivia managed to say through moans.
"Baby, I was never gone." he replied with a grin as he ran his fingers through her auburn hair
"I thought I was losing you."she confessed.
"You could never lose me, Olivia, my love." he insisted, kissing her heatedly.
"You were just so....obsessed with the ring..."
"Hush, my love, "He cut her off, putting his index finger over her lips, silencing her, "Tonight is about us, remember? No Joshua, No slayer, No ring. Just us."
"Us."Olivia repeated with a smile, "Just us."
"Nothing will ever come between us, Olivia. I promise you. We will have everything we've dreamed of."
"I know we will." she replied, a smile forming on her lips as she spoke, "You always make good on your promises."
"I don't make them often but when I do, I come through. I promised you a life, Olivia, a beautiful life you couldn't even begin to imagine. We will have that, Olivia."
"I know." she insisted, "I know."Gently, she stroked his cheek, pulling him into another kiss
before resting her head on his chest and drifting off into a pleasant sleep to the rhythmic lullaby of his beating heart.
